Short answer
Claim and verify your Google Business Profile, choose the right categories, fill in every field, add real photos, post weekly and collect reviews every week. Make sure your name, phone and address or service area match everywhere online, and add a website page for each service and town you cover.
How Google decides who shows up
Google ranks map results on three things: relevance (does your business match the search), distance (how close you are to the person searching or the town they named) and prominence (how well known and trusted you are, which includes reviews). You cannot change distance, so the work is in relevance and prominence.
Step 1: Claim and verify your profile
Search for your business on Google. If a profile exists, claim it. If not, create one at business.google.com and complete verification. Only a verified profile can rank well.
Step 2: Storefront or service area
If customers come to you, show your address. If you go to them, like a contractor or mobile service, set up a service-area business, hide your address and list the towns you serve, such as Stuart, Palm City, Port St. Lucie or Vero Beach.
Step 3: Choose the right categories
Your primary category matters more than almost anything else. Pick the one that matches what people search for, then add secondary categories for other main services.
Step 4: Fill in everything
- Hours, including holiday and seasonal hours
- Services or products, with short descriptions
- A description that says what you do and which towns you serve
- Your website, phone and booking link
- Attributes, like outdoor seating or wheelchair access
Step 5: Add real photos, often
Photos of your work, your team and your storefront help people choose you. Add a few new ones every month.
Step 6: Post every week
Posts about specials, events, new products and recent jobs show on your profile and signal that you are active. On the Treasure Coast, seasonal posts work well: season openings, summer specials, hurricane-season reminders for service businesses.
Step 7: Collect reviews every week
Steady reviews beat a burst every few years. Ask every happy customer right after the visit with a link straight to the review form, and reply to every review, good or bad. Automatic review requests make this easy.
Step 8: Make your listings match
Your business name, phone and address or service area should be the same on Google, Apple Maps, Bing, Yelp, Facebook, the chamber of commerce and every directory. Mismatches make Google less sure about you.
Step 9: Back it up on your website
Add a page for each main service and each town you want to show up in. Put your name, phone and service area on every page. This is the core of local SEO.
How long does it take?
Fixing a thin or unverified profile can bring in calls within weeks. Climbing above established competitors in busier markets like Port St. Lucie usually takes a few months of steady posts and reviews.

Questions small business owners ask
How do I get my business on Google Maps?
Create or claim your Google Business Profile, verify it, choose the right categories and fill in every field. Then add photos, post weekly and collect reviews to move up.
Can I show up on Google Maps without a storefront?
Yes. Set up a service-area business, hide your address and list the towns you serve.
Why does my competitor show up above me?
Usually because their profile is more complete, they have more recent reviews or their listings and website give Google clearer signals. A free checkup shows where the gap is.
